2. Umkhiqizo Uphelileview kanye Nezingxenye
The Santamedical Adult Deluxe Aneroid Sphygmomanometer is a manual blood pressure monitoring system. It includes the following components:
- Aneroid Manometer: A precision-calibrated gauge for displaying blood pressure readings.
- Adult Cuff: A comfortable, universal adult-sized cuff designed for upper arm placement.
- Inflation Bulb with Air Release Valve: Used to inflate the cuff and control deflation.
- Ishubhu: Connects the cuff, manometer, and inflation bulb.
- Ikesi elithwalayo: For convenient storage and transport of the device.

3. Setha
- Khipha Izingxenye: Carefully remove the sphygmomanometer, cuff, and inflation bulb from the carrying case.
- Xhuma i-Tubing: Ensure all tubing connections between the cuff, manometer, and inflation bulb are secure. The manometer typically connects to one tube from the cuff, and the inflation bulb connects to the other.
- Lungiselela Ukulinganisa:
- Hlala endaweni enethezekile usekelwe iqolo nezinyawo ziphansi.
- Rest your arm on a flat surface at heart level.
- Ensure you have not exercised, consumed caffeine, or smoked for at least 30 minutes prior to measurement.
4. Iziqondiso Zokusebenza
Follow these steps to accurately measure blood pressure using your Santamedical Aneroid Sphygmomanometer. A stethoscope (not included) is required to listen for Korotkoff sounds.
- Faka i-Cuff:
- Wrap the cuff firmly around your bare upper arm, approximately 1 inch (2-3 cm) above the elbow crease.
- Ensure the artery marker on the cuff (often indicated by an arrow) is aligned with your brachial artery, which is typically on the inside of your arm.
- The cuff should be snug but not uncomfortably tight. You should be able to slide two fingers under the cuff.

Image 4.1: Proper placement of the blood pressure cuff on the upper arm.
- Position the Manometer: Clip the manometer to the cuff or place it on a flat surface where it is easily visible.
- Inflate the Cuff:
- Close the air release valve on the inflation bulb by turning it clockwise.
- Rapidly pump the inflation bulb until the manometer reads approximately 20-30 mmHg above your usual systolic pressure, or until the pulse sound disappears through the stethoscope. Do not over-inflate.

Image 4.2: Hand squeezing the inflation bulb to inflate the cuff.
- Deflate and Read:
- Slowly open the air release valve by turning it counter-clockwise, allowing the pressure to drop at a rate of 2-3 mmHg per second.
- Listen carefully with a stethoscope placed over the brachial artery.
- Note the reading on the manometer when you hear the first clear, tapping sound (Systolic Pressure).
- Continue to deflate the cuff. Note the reading when the sounds disappear completely (Diastolic Pressure).

Image 4.3: Hand adjusting the air release valve for controlled deflation.
- Record Readings: Document your systolic and diastolic pressures immediately.
- Repeat Measurement: Wait 1-2 minutes before taking another measurement on the same arm. For best results, take two or three readings and average them.
5. Isondlo Nokunakekela
- Ukuhlanza: Wipe the cuff with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not immerse the cuff or manometer in water. The manometer can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth.
- Isitoreji: Store the sphygmomanometer in its carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Ukulinganisa: Aneroid sphygmomanometers should be checked for calibration accuracy periodically, typically every 1-2 years, or if dropped. Consult a qualified technician for calibration services.
- Ukuhlola: Regularly inspect the cuff, tubing, and inflation bulb for any signs of wear, cracks, or leaks. Replace components as needed.
6. Ukuxazulula izinkinga
| Inkinga | Imbangela Engenzeka | Isixazululo |
|---|---|---|
| Cuff does not inflate or inflates slowly. | Air release valve is open; loose tubing connections; leak in cuff or bulb. | Ensure valve is closed tightly. Check all tubing connections. Inspect cuff and bulb for damage and replace if necessary. |
| Ukufundwa okungalungile noma okungahambisani. | Improper cuff placement; rapid deflation; manometer out of calibration; patient movement/talking. | Re-apply cuff correctly. Deflate at 2-3 mmHg/second. Have manometer calibrated. Ensure patient is still and quiet. |
| I-Cuff ishesha kakhulu. | Air release valve not fully closed; leak in system. | Ensure air release valve is fully closed. Check tubing and cuff for leaks. |
