Setha

1. Ukufakwa kwebhethri

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the radio (refer to Figure 3).

  3. Insert two (2) AA batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.

  • Amandla Ebhethri: Once batteries are installed, slide the ON/OFF switch (located on the side, refer to Figure 2) to the 'ON' position.
  • Amandla Angaphandle: Connect a Micro USB cable (not included) to the Micro USB port on the side of the radio (refer to Figure 2) and to a 3V-5V DC power supply. The radio supports external power operation and charging (if using rechargeable AA batteries).

1. Vula/Vala

  • To turn on the radio, slide the ON/OFF switch to the 'ON' position.
  • To turn off the radio, slide the ON/OFF switch to the 'OFF' position. This completely powers down the unit, preventing battery drain.

2. Band Selection (FM/AM/SW/LW/TV Sound)

Press the corresponding band buttons (FM, MW, SW) on the front panel to switch between frequency bands. The display will show the currently selected band.

  • Ukhozi FM: Frequency Modulation band.
  • MW: Medium Wave (AM) band.
  • SW: Shortwave band.
  • LW: Longwave band (accessible via SW band selection, then tuning).
  • TV Sound: Specific FM frequencies are allocated for TV sound reception (FM3, FM4).

3. Ukushuna

The radio supports both manual and automatic tuning.

  • Ukulungisa mathupha: Use the 'TUNING' up/down arrow buttons to adjust the frequency incrementally. The default step values are: FM 0.05MHz, SW 0.005MHz, MW 9KHz or 10KHz (depending on region, Type 1 is 10KHz).
  • Ukusesha okuzenzakalelayo: Press and hold the 'MEMORY' button to initiate an automatic scan for available stations. The radio will scan and save stations automatically.

4. Saving and Recalling Stations

The radio can store up to 60 stations (20 each for FM, MW, and SW).

  • To Save Manually: Tune to the desired station. Press the 'M+' button. The display will show a memory location. Use the tuning buttons to select a different memory location if desired, then press 'M+' again to confirm.
  • Ukukhumbula: Press the 'FAVORITE' button to cycle through saved stations.

5. Ukulawulwa Kwevolumu

Use the 'VOLUME' up/down arrow buttons to adjust the sound level.

6. Stereo Mode (FM Only)

To activate FM stereo mode:

  1. Ensure you are in FM mode and plug in earphones (refer to Figure 4).
  2. Press and hold the 'MEMORY' button for approximately 2 seconds. The word "STEREO" will appear on the display.

To deactivate stereo mode, press and hold the 'MEMORY' button again, or unplug the earphones.

7. Umsebenzi Wewashi Ne-Alarm

The radio includes a clock and alarm function. Refer to the 'TIME', 'HOUR', and 'MINUTE' buttons on the front panel to set the time and alarm. Detailed instructions for setting the alarm are typically found in the quick start guide included with the product.

8. Thulisa Umsebenzi

Press the 'MUTE' button to temporarily silence the radio. Press it again to restore sound.

9. Umsebenzi wokukhiya

Press the 'LOCK' button to prevent accidental button presses. The display will show a lock icon. Press it again to unlock.
